Welcome, Ayoka Seymour

The YWCA of The Bahamas is pleased to welcome Ayoka Seymour, who has joined the Association as a Communications Coordinator. Specifically, she will lend her talents to the development of website content, including articles, feature stories, newsletters, and other communications that will help to tell the YWCA's story and highlight its impact within the community.

Ayoka, whose Nigerian name means "she who brings joy," is a young Bahamian cultural enthusiast with a deep appreciation for the arts. Her passion for theatre has led her to serve as a lighting and sound technician with Shakespeare in Paradise since 2019. An avid lover of literature, writing, music, and dance, Ayoka firmly believes that we should all "let the music move us." She is also a choreographed dancer with Colours Entertainment, where she continues to express her creativity through performance.

A gifted writer and emerging leader, Ayoka's educational journey began at Palmdale Primary School and continued at St. John's College, where she served as Head Girl. She later attended the University of The Bahamas, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Linguistics.

During her time at the University, Ayoka distinguished herself through academic achievement and student leadership. She served as Student Government Association Senator for the School of English Studies, worked as a Peer Tutor in the University Writing Centre, and became a member of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society. She continues to maintain strong ties with the University community, fostering meaningful connections with graduates and supporting initiatives that advance the institution's mission and alumni engagement. She is recognized for her academic excellence, contributions to cultural research, and active involvement in university affairs.

Currently, Ayoka serves in the Department of Alumni Services within the University of The Bahamas' Division of Institutional Advancement. Despite her many commitments, she continues to pursue her diverse interests with enthusiasm and dedication, including her longstanding passion for Junkanoo, an art form that remains close to her heart.

We are pleased to welcome Ayoka to the YWCA family and look forward to the creativity, and energy she will bring to our communications efforts.
