Report from Dr. Donna Miller

On September 24, several YWCA members joined with the Bahamas Committee of The World Day of Prayer at its annual service, during which an offering was received in support of the Fellowship of the Least Coin.

I was most intrigued by the historical account given by Mrs. Arnette Poitier and Bishop Emeritus Theophilus Rolle.

Mrs. Poitier mentioned that she was a part of the Fellowship of the Least Coin when it was first established to carry out the vision of Shanti Solomon of India to collect coins to assist oppressed women around the world. She said the first collection netted $544,000 worth of coins of which The Bahamas received $10,000. This was indeed an awesome demonstration of reaching out to the less fortunate.  The service has caused me to develop a sincere sense of unwavering commitment that has inspired me to do more for the females in our community.

Bishop Rolle referenced the poor widow in Mark chapter 12:42-43 who gave two mites, the smallest coins. She gave all she had to assist the needs of the people in contrast to the wealthy folks who gave out of their abundance. Her giving causes us to reflect on the question: what does God expect or require of us today? We must be willing to continue to demonstrate God's love and be His hand extended to the less fortunate in a broken world.

Report from Deidre Baptiste

I always look forward to the in person gathering of The Fellowship of the Least Coin and today was no exception.  The favorite part for me is the fellowship.  There's an atmosphere of unity and warmth.  God made us for relationship, and I experience His presence there and that makes the difference.  Also sharing a meal afterward is so appreciated.  Jesus gathered with people around a meal.  The table is a shared space where a sense of community is felt.  So, I want the women to know how grateful I am for their generosity and thoughtfulness in providing it.  May our gracious Father continue to bless us all as we bond in a spirit of love and unity to be about His business.

THE YWCA'S BIBLE STUDY AND FELLOWSHIP GROUP

This year marks the 16th anniversary of the YWCA's Bible Study and Fellowship Group. Over the years, members have enjoyed a rich tradition of fellowship and the study of God's Word through engaging and interactive sessions. The purpose of the Bible Study is not only to deepen our understanding of Scripture, but also to provide an opportunity for meaningful discussion, the exchange of insights, and personal reflection on how biblical teachings can be applied to our daily lives.

If you have not yet had the opportunity to attend one of our sessions, we extend a heartfelt invitation for you to join us. Come and share in the fellowship, discussion, and encouragement that have enriched our group over the past sixteen years. We would be delighted to have you join us and we look forward to welcoming you at our next gathering.
