Volunteer Appreciation
Reflection on Scripture
In a recent Bible study at the YWCA, we reflected on the passage
found in Matthew 25:35–46, where Jesus exhorts His followers to
meet the needs of others. He reminds us that in serving those
around us, we are in fact serving Him, and that neglecting the
needs of people is equivalent to neglecting Him. This teaching
reassures us that the mission of YWCA Bahamas as is expressed
in its logo, “Creating programs to meet community needs”—is
firmly in keeping with the commands of Christ.
Gratitude for Volunteers
We also recognize that the YWCA of The Bahamas could not
have endured for more than nine decades without the unwavering
commitment of our volunteers. Their dedication has been the
lifeblood of this organization. Time and again, our members and
friends have demonstrated true Christian virtue, offering countless
acts of kindness—often unseen and uncelebrated—simply to
uplift those in need. Their generosity has been a quiet testimony
of faith in action.
Mutual Enrichment
At the same time, we acknowledge that this journey has not been
a one-way street. The YWCA has given back to us as well. It has
provided opportunities to form lasting friendships, expand our
networks, and grow personally and professionally. The wide
variety of tasks we have undertaken has challenged us to
strengthen our social, technical, and organizational skills, shaping
us into more capable individuals.
Today, we pause to honor and recognize the dedicated core of
individuals who continue to sustain the work of this association.
They embody the spirit of the YWCA, reminding us that when we
serve others, we serve Christ Himself, and in doing so, we help
build a stronger, more caring community.
