Remembering Those Who Served: Dame Bertha Isaacs
When I returned to the YWCA in 1986, I often heard members fondly recall memories of Dame Bertha Isaacs. She was remembered not only for her leadership but also for her dedication. Living near Shirley Street and Hawkins Hill, she would walk with the young ladies to the Aurora Lodge Hall on Charlotte Street whenever the Y convened there.
Records show that in the 1950s, Dame Bertha, alongside Past President Dora Sands, represented the YWCA at a regional conference in Puerto Rico. During that same period, she also served as President of the organization for one year.
We extend heartfelt appreciation to her granddaughter, Janeen Isaacs, for graciously sharing a photograph and the funeral obituary of this remarkable citizen, ensuring her legacy continues to inspire.
