The YWCA’s History Competition

The YWCA Concludes the 1st Annual Online History Competition with a Prize Giving Ceremony

On Saturday January 29th, 2022, The Bahamas YWCA concluded its first annual Online History Competition with the awarding of cash prizes to the successful participants. The aim of the competition was to give students an opportunity to become active historians as they set out to explore the rich geographical, cultural and historical heritage of the country.

At the university level the winner was Loquesha Roker, a senior at the University of The Bahamas. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in history. Loquesha’s story was “The Story of Kate Moss - A Slave Girl From Crooked Island.”

Tysha Johnson was named winner of the Online History Competition's Junior High Division. Guided by the personal mantra, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”, Tysha Johnson is a 14 year old ninth grade student at Windsor Academy. She is a member of the STEM and Drama Clubs and Windsor Table Talk. Her extracurricular activities include: Member of Bahamas National Children’s Choir, a golf club member, Awana (Word of Life Girls), Rangers, Sapphire Club and Zeta Youth Auxiliary.

For the competition Tysha submitted a video titled: "Who Will Fill These Shoes - My Unsung Heroine, Patricia Bazard."
